Let's go on a field trip...

Hey, hi.

Welcome to the second installment on my new blog.
I hope that this finds you happy and well.

I have had an exciting outing this week
and I want to share it with you.

Let me start with this introduction
Sandy and her grand daughter
This is my friend Sandy Roe Cooper.
She and I have have been each others'
Lucy and Ethel
for a few years.

She knows how much I enjoy art and creativity, so when this opportunity came up she gave me a call.

Sandy is a secretary at
Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church of Indianapolis.

And they have entered Phase 3 of the
Iconography process.

Yeah, I know.
I didn't know what that meant either.
That is why
we went on the field trip.

So, we put Darwin Dog in the car
and drove to Carmel.
He enjoys riding in the van.

It was a nice day.

We saw interesting things on the way.

Let me say that this church is absolutely beautiful.

I had been invited to photograph the progress of the iconography process in the church.

The iconography is being painted in phases.  The plans for this phase were posted in the foyer.

I feel like these are important enough that I need to show them in the blown up view.

These were agreed & voted upon.
They represent different happenings in the bible.

The process was really fascinating.

There were drawings on the wall...

These sketches are then color blocked with several basic colors.

These folks are part of the team from Greece.
Their job is to color block.
They were working on the ceiling while we were there.

This gentleman seemed to be filling in color and working on details.  He was up by the ceiling, also.

This is Dr. Kordis, the leader of the project.

The process was amazing.  The style was something that I had never seen before.

This wall is not a part of this phase, but I wanted to record this painting.
Isn't it amazing?
(you can use the bar at the bottom to move to the other side of the picture)

They work from dark up to light. The faces are so unique.  I believe that I was told that the paint has egg yolks in it.

This is the tomb.  Look at the cloths.  They are so stylized.  This is from the new work.
(Again, use the bar at the bottom to see the whole thing.)
Go back and look at the drawings above.
They wanted to make sure that I knew that the work was not finished, yet. The feet and hands were left undone in some.

Again, look at the highlight work.
Just incredible.

This is also from the new paint work.  There is so much going on here.  The movement of the water, the men in the boat and the fish on the grill.
Here is a close up of part of the water painting. Look at the incredible
work that these artists do.

I know it is very unlike me, but I am at a loss for words.
GOD flows through these people.  They are doing what he has given them to do.
What a joy to be able to use your talent for your Lord.

No, I am not of this faith.  But, I was truly touched by these paintings.

GOD is being glorified through their talents.

There is an opportunity to see this for yourself.

  1. It was so good to see you and Al! Love the photos!!! Just a small correction... the paint is not egg based for this phase due to the Iconography being within reach of people. The walls needed to be washable. Hope to see everyone at Gyro Night!
